Canada celebrated home success in the inaugural Club Sportif Cote de Liesse Open when favourite Shahier Razik survived a marathon 107-minute final against Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez to pick up his third PSA Tour title of the year at Club CDL in Montreal.

 

With a 79-minute win in the quarter-finals followed by a 97-minute triumph in the semis, the 29-year-old from Toronto might have been hoping for a quicker outcome in the finale.

 

But third seed Rodriguez, the 21-year-old from Bogotá who celebrated a career-high world No36 ranking at the beginning of this month, was also looking for his third Tour crown of the year after reaching his fifth final.

 

Three of the four games went to tie-breaks - with Razik ultimately prevailing 11-3, 10-11 (0-2), 11-10 (3-1), 11-10 (2-0) to win the $15,000 PSA Tour event trophy, and the 16^th title of his career.

Seventh seed Bernardo Samper was severely tested by Indian qualifier Gaurav Nandrajog in the first round of the Club Sportif Cote de Liesse Open before claiming his anticipated place in the last eight of the $15,000 PSA Tour squash event at Club Sportif in Cote de Liesse in the Canadian province of Quebec.

 

The 25-year-old from Colombia, who celebrated a career-high world No57 ranking this month, came back from a game down - then survived a lengthy final tie-break game before beating the 22-year-old from New Delhi 4-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-2, 11-10 (6-4) in 60 minutes.

 

Samper now faces fellow Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez in the quarter-finals after the third seed beat Scottish qualifier Alan Clyne 4-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-9.

 

Home interest in the semi-finals is guaranteed after top seed Shahier Razik and fifth seed Shawn Delierre set up an all-Canadian quarter-final.  Razik beat compatriot Robin Clarke 11-6, 11-5, 11-4, while Delierre despatched Australian Ryan Cuskelly 11-6, 11-3, 11-5.
